Our Founder

Steve Rosko

Motorcycles have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.

From racing battery-powered toy bikes around the living room as a child, to conquering dirt piles on my 100 cc dirtbike, setting national speed records in drag racing on my Ninjas, and enjoying weekend rides while playfully telling my father I would never own a Harley like his — I have always embraced the world of motorcycling.

Over the years I have ridden Hondas, Kawasakis, Harleys, Indians, and several Italian models. Yet life has a way of reshaping our paths.

Since 2015, I have fallen deeply in love with Guatemala. I have returned again and again on my Aprilia Tuareg — the perfect adventure motorcycle for exploring the rugged roads and diverse landscapes of this remarkable part of the world — drawn to its rich culture, breathtaking scenery, welcoming people, and the unforgettable thrill of roads that vanish around the next mountain bend.

That passion led me to create Sacbé Moto Adventures — named for the “white roads” (Sacbé) of the ancient Mayan culture — so I could share these experiences with you.

My Aprilia Tuareg carries the name of the legendary Tuareg nomads—“free men” who roamed the Sahara on ancient caravan routes. In the same spirit, I ride it like the Maya once walked their sacbéob—the straight, elevated “white roads” of limestone that stitched together cities, temples, and entire civilizations through jungle and time.

Join me as we explore the history, culture, hidden gems, and timeless beauty of this remarkable corner of Latin America, one unforgettable mile at a time.

"Every detail of this tour was dialed, from the perfectly executed rides to the cultural meals and breathtaking views —this was a next-level experience. Easily the most inspiring riding trip I've ever done."

What Are Sacbé Roads?

Sacbé (pronounced "sahk-bay") means "white road" in the Mayan language. These were sophisticated raised causeways built by the ancient Maya civilization between 300 BCE and 900 CE. They connected cities, temples, and ceremonial centers across the Yucatán Peninsula, Guatemala, Belize, and beyond.

  • Construction: Made of limestone gravel over a stone base, covered in white stucco that gleamed in the sun — hence the name.

  • Length: Some stretched over 100 km (62 miles). The longest known network linked major centers like Cobá to Yaxuná.

  • Purpose: Used for trade, pilgrimages, processions, and military movement. They were remarkably straight and engineered with bridges, swamp crossings, and drainage.

Iconic Sacbé Experiences in Guatemala

On the Mayan Sacbé – Heartland Tour with SACBE MOTO ADVENTURES, you ride modern versions of these historic routes:

  • Tikal Connections — Explore the cradle of Maya civilization where ancient sacbéob radiated from the great pyramids.

  • Antigua to Petén — Ride through lush highlands into the Maya Biosphere Reserve, following paths once used by ancient traders and priests.

  • Mix of Surfaces — Smooth pavement, historic cobblestones, and rewarding gravel sections that echo the original sacbé feel.

Why Ride Them Today?

  • Cultural Immersion — Pass living Maya communities whose traditions date back millennia.

  • Wildlife & Nature — Jaguar habitat, howler monkeys, toucans, and dense jungle.

  • Adventure Riding — A thrilling mix of curves, elevation changes, and remote roads perfect for adventure motorcycles like the Aprilia Tuareg.
